Creating a Culture of Empathy

Abstract

The author uses her experience of writing down and reflecting on an indelible moment from the 4th grade to engage her students, pre-service teachers, in a journey of self-knowledge in order to create a culture of caring in their future classrooms. By creating podcasts of their own indelible school moments, pre-service teachers began the process of examining some of their most formative moments and using the knowledge that they gain to practice empathy with others.
