Abstract

Instances of exclusionary discipline are explored, revealing the punitive consequences of zero-tolerance policies and their role in ushering Black girls into the school-to-prison pipeline. The autobiographical method of currere, coupled with a commitment to centering the voices of Women of Color, guides the exploration of the author's disciplinary experience in K-12 and the broader implications for Black girls. The discussion delves into the emotional burden carried by Black girls, emphasizing the lasting effects on their sense of inferiority and reluctance to seek help. The narrative concludes by advocating for a comprehensive approach to address the school-to-prison pipeline, considering both immediate and long-term consequences on Black girls' educational journeys.
