The Emotions that Walk into School
Abstract
This currere piece features the different emotions and states of being that students bring into the classroom based on my high school experience where I held doors for students every Monday of my senior year. Throughout this experience, I noticed the wide range of emotions and baggage that students bring into school, even from students that seemed to have it all together! My regressive segment features different vignettes that represent the happiness, sadness, and anger that students showed. This currere focuses on how the role of the teacher is vital because of the need to create safe spaces in our classrooms for students to enter. Caring for students practically and with research-based strategies is a big focus throughout multiple segments of this piece.
