Abstract

The Ephemeral Thread of Mujōkan and Aware is a poetic essay that delves into the Japanese aesthetics of mono no aware (the pathos of impermanence) and mujōkan (the impermanence of all things) to reflect on the transient nature of justice, kindness, and beauty. Through a meditative and lyrical tone, the piece explores the fleeting presence of goodness and the enduring shadows of banality, offering a poignant perspective on the sorrow and grace of impermanence. By embracing a mujō lens, it invites readers to find meaning not in permanence, but in the tender, ephemeral moments that define our existence.
