From Power to Influence: Rethinking Classroom Learning Environments with Currere
Abstract
In this currere, I attempt to make sense of my childhood experiences with classroom discipline and management systems. I reflect on how I initially approached discipline in my own teaching and how an experience working with an American Indian community began a journey toward rethinking classroom management in terms of learning communities. I consider implications for the future, when I will teach a classroom management course, and for clinical practice in teacher education.
